The General Synaxis in 2009 decided to look into the possibility of extending our missionary activities to the African continent. Fr. George Vallikattukuzhiyil, the then General Councilor for missionary apostolate, took the initiative to find suitable places for our mission. MCBS Zion Province was assigned to start their mission in the Archdiocese of Tabora in Tanzania. Our pioneer missionaries reached Tanzania on 18th December 2009. They needed some time to learn the language and get acquainted with the local culture. On 13th June 2010 our priests were entrusted with the responsibility Makokola parish in Tabora town. On 1st October 2012 our mission was extended to Ndono, village parish with 35 substations. Meanwhile we purchased 50 acres of land in Ilolamgulu village near Tabora with a plan to expand our mission endowers beyond pastoral care. We named this EMPOWER which is the elaboration of “Eucharistic Missionaries for the Person Oriented World Emancipation and Revitalization.” As the name indicates our aim of the project is to strengthen the people through education, health care and social empowerment. As a pioneer project we started a girls’ home which was inaugurated on 3rd July 2015 by Very Rev. Fr Superior General in the presence of Archbishop of Tabora and the Provincial Superior of Zion Province.

SSH sisters are collaborating with MCBS missionaries at this . On August 2, 2015 we broadened our presence to Dodoma archdiocese, in the capital city of Tanzania, receiving the invitation of the Archbishop. In Dodoma also we have purchased a few acres of land with the intention of starting some projects for the good of the people. At present 7 priests from Zion province are serving the people in Tanzania in four centers.
